Call for Assistant Coach Applications for Team BC Men’s Softball Team for the 2022 Canada Summer Games


Softball BC invites qualified applicants to apply to become an Assistant Coach with Team BC Men’s

Softball Team for the 2022 Canada Summer Games in the Niagara Region. The application deadline is Friday, May 7, 2021, at 4:30 PM PST. Applications must include:

  1. Cover Letter - detailing applicants motivation to coach Team BC Men’s Softball Team
  2. Resume
  3. Attached 2022 Canada Summer Games Assistant Coach Application
  4. National Coaching Certification Transcript

 The Head Coach will select the Assistant Coach with consultation from Softball BC.

Role of the Assistant Coach

The applicant must demonstrate interpersonal, human relations, communication and leadership skills and be prepared to commit to a minimum 14-month preparation plan culminating with the participation in the 2022 Summer Games in the Niagara region of Ontario.

Knowledge of Sport Science and qualification in Sport Medicine and current first aid would be considered an asset. Applicants will be subject to a Criminal Records Search in compliance with the Criminal Records Review Program and must complete the Aboriginal Coaching Module.

In addition to the general responsibilities, which are clearly defined as: responsibility for talent identification; athlete preparation; and team development; the Assistant Coach is subject to an evaluation by the Team BC Men’s Head Coach on the understanding that appointment to this position may be rescinded at any time during the term if all requirements of the Program are not fulfilled. Please note the Assistant Coach must be available to travel to Identification Camps, Training Camps, Tournaments and other competition during weekdays and weekends. In addition, the Assistant Coach is expected to take on additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Minimum Qualifications 

      Competition Introduction Trained**; plus a willingness to

  1. Become Competition Introduction Certified six months before the start of the Canada Games; AND
  2. Complete the NCCP’s Competition Development Multisport coaching modules six months before the beginning of the Canada Games
  • ** Competition Introduction Trained is defined as have completed
    • Competition Weekend #1 - What to Coach and Competition Weekend #2 - How to Coach

In addition to helping lead and guide the athletes to perform at their best at the Games, the assistant coach is responsible for supervising players and ensuring their safety and well-being throughout their Games experience. This includes travelling on Games transportation to the Games with the athletes, staying in Games’ coach accommodations, and supervising the athletes throughout the Games. Assistant coaches are responsible for the actions of the athletes. The assistant coach is expected to uphold and support the Canada Summer Games and Softball BC rules.

Phil Ransome Named Softball BC’s Canada Summer Games Men’s Team’s Head Coach


Langley, BC., Tuesday, April 8, 2021 -- Softball BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Ransome as the Head Coach for Team BC Men’s Team for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

“Our selection committee was thoroughly impressed with Phil‘s level of professionalism and his coaching experience at the National Championships, BC Summer Games, and the North American Indigenous Games. We are very pleased that someone of his calibre will lead our Team BC Men’s program,” said Graeme Duncan, Chair of the Selection Committee.

When asked about his recent appointment, Phil said, “I am excited about the opportunity and want to thank Softball BC for trusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank Doug Allin for his efforts to establish the program’s direction over the last 18 months. I look forward to continuing on the path that he has set and raising the bar for Fastball in British Columbia.”
