(Bogota, Colombia) The Canadian Junior Women's National Team had a long day as they played three games and spent 16 hours at the stadium due to rain delays and will come home with a Silver medal at the Pan American Championship in Bogota. The Gold medal game was completed at 3:00am (local time).

Canada ends Exhibition Series with win over the United States

(Whitehorse, YK) The Canadian Women's National Softball Team defeated Team USA 5-1 on Wednesday night, ending the six-game exhibition series played between the two teams in Surrey, BC and Whitehorse, YK. After winning the first two games in Surrey, Canada then lost the next three - including the first game in Whitehorse on Tuesday - before evening the series at three wins apiece with tonight's win.

Canada wins Bronze Medal at ISF World Championships!

(Caracas, Venezuela) Many people would have counted Team Canada out on Thursday when they were trailing Australia 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the red and white fought back by scoring three runs to win that game, and went on to beat China that evening by scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh to take the 1-0 victory. It was an incredible Canada day for the Women’s National Team, but they simply ran out of gas in the Bronze medal game against a rested Japan team by a score of 12-3.

Canada defeats Australia after thrilling comeback at World Softball Championship!

(Caracas, Venezuela) Team Canada could not get much going through the first six innings as Australian pitcher Justine Smethurst held them to only one hit, but the bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh as the red and white came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Australia 3-2 in a thrilling bottom of the seventh inning comeback. With the win, Canada moves on to face China at 7:30pm EDT tonight, with the winner of that game advancing to the Bronze medal game on Friday.

Softball Canada Announces 2010 Junior Women's National Team Roster

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce the list of seventeen (17) players who have been named to the Junior Women's National Team for the III Pan American Softball Championship, which serves as a qualifier for the 2011 ISF IX Junior Women's World Championship. Regional evaluation camps were held in 2009, and an athlete pool was named in December of 2009. The players from the athlete pool were invited and participated in a selection camp this week in Brampton, ON.

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce the list of seventeen (17) players who have been named to the Women's National Team for the 2010 ISF XII Women's World Championship. The roster includes eleven (11) players returning from the 2009 National Team and six (6) players who were selected from two Evaluation Camps held over the past month. The final Selection Camp was held this past week in Surrey, BC.

(Oklahoma City, OK) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce that Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC), a 2008 Canadian Softball Olympian and Senior Women's National Team member, has been awarded the prestigious 9th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award. Lawrie plays for the University of Washington - along with fellow Canadian National Team member Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) - and the team will participate in the 2010 Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City. The Huskies are the defending WCWS Series Champions, and Lawrie was also named the Collegiate Player of the Year last year.

Pair of Canadians among Top 3 NCAA Softball Player of the Year Finalists

(Ottawa, ON) The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America has announced the Top 3 Finalists for the 9th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award. This award, which is considered the most prestigious honour in Division I women's collegiate softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. In 2009, Canadian pitcher Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) won the award and subsequently led the University of Washington Huskies to the Women's College World Series title.

Robin Mackin Retires From the National Team Program

Ottawa, ON) After being a part of the Canadian Women's National Team Program from 2005 to 2008, pitcher Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) has announced her retirement from the sport of softball. Following her participation at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Mackin underwent shoulder surgery in 2009 and returned to NCAA play in 2010, but further complications have led to her decision to retire from the sport.

(Surrey, BC) Please join me in congratulating the following Softball BC umpires that applied for the categories in which they were selected to officiate at 2010 Canadian and Western Canadian Championships. Most were contacted by phone on April 15, 2010. As always these are tough decisions to make. This year I asked all of the DUIC’s for input on umpires in their district as well as umpires outside their district that they had seen work or had supervised. Their input made a difference in many selections and I appreciate the feedback received. This important contribution allows the Provincial UIC to be certain that all applicants have a fair opportunity for selection.

From numerous discussions, it was determined that pitching was a key area in need of coaching resources. Thus, Softball Canada put together a group of internationally acclaimed pitchers to discuss this area of the game, with the goal of developing a standardized pitching curriculum based on Softball Canada's Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) Model, to be used across the country.

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce that Don Bates (Saskatoon, SK) has been chosen as the Head Coach of the Men’s National Team program. Don was an assistant coach with the Men’s program since 2006, and also served as an assistant coach with the Senior Women’s Olympic Team in 2008. Bates will replace Mark Smith (Falmouth, NS), who stepped down earlier this year to take on the Head Coach position of the Women’s National Team program.

(Prague, Czech Republic) – After a tough 11-10 loss in 11 innings against Puerto Rico on Friday, the Canadian Women’s U16 National Team suffered another heartbreaking loss by a score of 5-4 in eight innings against the Netherlands. (Prague, Czech Republic) – The Canadian Under-16 Women’s National Team will open its Easton Foundation Youth World Cup schedule on Monday when they will take on Italy (10:30am EDT). The event will run from August 10th to 16th in Prague, Czech Republic with 12 teams competing. The Easton Foundation Youth World Cup is organized by the International Softball Federation (ISF) and the Czech Softball Association in order to demonstrate the global appeal of the sport of softball for youth.

Canada Finishes Preliminary Round Strong at Pan American Softball Championship

(Maracay, Venezuela) – The Canadian Senior Women’s National Team improved its second-place record to 8-1 in Pool B at the 2009 Women’s Pan Am Championship in Maracay, Venezuela by defeating Jamaica 15-0 in the final game of the preliminary round. A 1-0 loss to Venezuela on Wednesday was the only blemish on Canada record, as they outscored their opponents 94-6 in the preliminary round.

Calling all coaches! Softball BC is currently accepting applications for the 2011 Western Canada Summer games to be held in Kamloops. The deadline for interested coaches will be August 31, 2009. Softball BC will be seeking two (2) head coaches, one for the boys program and one for the girls. All applicants must possess a minimum N.C.C.P. Level III Softball Certification. The Head coach will be responsible for compiling a coaching staff consisting of one(1) Softball Certified Level II or Competition-Introduction Certified coach. The Western Canada Summer Games require that one of the three coaches on staff of the girls team be female.

(Oklahoma City, OK) - Softball Canada would like to congratulate Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) and Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) who have helped the University of Washington Huskies (51-12) win the best-of-three NCAA Women's College World Series over the University of Florida Gators (63-5). Lawrie pitched all four games of the Double Elimination Bracket play to lead Washington to the best-of-three final, where she earned both wins in the pitcher's circle over #1 ranked Florida as Washington swept the series 2-0. Lawrie beat the Gators for three of their five losses this season, including two shutouts.

Men’s National Softball Team Goes Undefeated in Virgin Islands Tour

Softball Canada is pleased to extend an invitation to interested candidates to apply for the position of Head Coach of our Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT).

A job description for the Head Coach position SWNT is attached. In addition to the traditional responsibilities, the Head Coach will work in collaboration with the Operations Manager - National Teams and the Women’s National Team Committee in designing and implementing a multi-faceted high performance program.
The ideal candidate will be certified at Level 4 or higher under the National Coaching Certification Program (or the equivalent in the new NCCP – Competition High Performance certified), or have the equivalent experience and training. Experience coaching and/or playing at a high calibre international level is an asset. Coaches who are certified at Level 3 may apply providing they ultimately enrol in the Level 4 program, if they are the successful candidate. Bilingualism is considered an asset.

Park City Utah: The Ridge Meadows Pride have returned home from Park City, Utah with ultimate title to add to its resumé - the
2008 Triple Crown World Series of Fastball champion.
The midget A girls, age 17-19, won the World Series title after defeating the So Cal Commotion 7-4 Saturday.
The Pride played 11 games over five days against teams from all over the United States in temperatures above 40 degrees C.
The team finished with 7-4 overall record, but went 6-1 in the playoffs - when it really counted, said Tom Bowen, the team's coach.

Canada splits pair of games in Japan

(Sendai, Japan) – Team Canada continued its preparations for the Olympic Games as they competed in a Tri-Nations tournament in Japan this past weekend. After taking a 5-0 victory Friday over the Netherlands, who will participate at the Olympics for the first time since 1996, Canada dropped a 4-0 decision to Japan on Sunday. Japan also blanked the Netherlands 4-0 on Saturday.

Vancouver Grey Sox win 2008 Vancouver Challenge Cup!

(Vancouver, Canada) The 7th Annual edition of the Vancouver Challenge Men's Fastpitch tournament concluded this past Sunday afternoon, with the host Grey Sox defeating the Pueblo, CO Bandits in the final game by a score of 4 - 0. This year's tournament proved to be another success. Over the course of 3 days the consistent large crowds of fastpitch enthusiasts were treated to some high quality team and individual performances. Mother nature also cooperated throughout the event with seasonable summer temperatures at South Memorial Park, and despite a forecast for rain on Sunday, weather was a non factor throughout the weekend.

Learn To Play during Canada Cup

This year Softball BC and Canada Cup hosted a Learn to Play Kids Clinic on Friday July 11, 2008. Over 55, 4 to 8 year old girls and boys participated in an action-packed day at Softball City. Team Canada members also attended throughout the day telling the kids their personal experiences from the game and explaining to kids the level of commitment they have had that has got them to be where they are today.
