Welcome to the 2017 softball season. I want to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the membership in British Columbia for your continued support and passion each of you bring to the game.

Speaking on behalf of the board of directors, we are excited about so many new initiatives which are taking place, not only in our sport, but throughout amateur sport in the province.

Specifically for softball, we are seeing associations who have been dormant for periods of time once again registering players and organizing games for the youth in their area. The 2016 Senior Women’s World Championships will be hosted in Surrey, and are being promoted as the biggest world championship ever. It will be a time for our province to join together and celebrate our sport like we have never done before. 2017 will bring the men’s game back to the Canada Summer Games, what we hope will be the beginning of a new era in Canada for men’s fastpitch.

The new president of the International Softball Federation, Dale McMann, is a native British Columbian, past president of Softball BC and a former resident of Prince George. Mr. McMann’s commitment to our sport and in particular to the male fastpitch category will further strengthen the global commitment to increased participation for all age groups and gender.

I am encouraged by the stance of our federal and provincial governments to increase “participaction” and physical literacy among all age groups. Softball is a game which can be enjoyed by all age groups and skill levels, fitting into the Sport 4 Life concept which will ultimately help create better health for all of us.

Our board and staff continue working hard to improve delivery of services and to be available to the membership. I encourage all of you to take advantage of the tools available to communicate with us; only through effective and respectful communication can we meet your needs.

Respectfully,
Jake DeWitt
President, BC Amateur Softball Association
