PRESS RELEASE - Canada Cup gears up to welcome the world’s top tier athletes

The 2017 Canada Cup International Softball Championship will showcase the top softball playing talent from across the globe, hosting 90 teams from 10 countries. Taking place from July 7th to July 17th at Softball City in Surrey, BC, the tournament will host some of the world’s top ranked teams, as well as some of the best national and international club teams.

Get ready to see some incredible talent from the number one ranked team in the world, Team Japan, who will be seeking a medal after their second-place win at the Surrey 2016 Women’s World Softball Championship (held at Softball City, the same park as the Canada Cup). However, Team Japan will have to keep an eye out for Team Canada, who is currently ranked third in the world and will be playing on home soil at the tournament. Another standout is Team Australia who are ranked fourth in the world, and will undoubtedly put it all on the line in their attempt to medal at the 2017 Canada Cup International Softball Championship.

Representing a strong softball and baseball nation, Team Mexico, is one of the rosters expected to do very well at the tournament. Other national teams participating in the event are Team Pakistan, Team Philippines, Team Puerto Rico, Team Republic of Korea, Team Chinese Taipei, and Team Venezuela  .

With the success of the Women’s World Softball Championship held in Surrey in 2016 and the addition of softball into the 2020 Olympics, teams from around the world are attending as they prepare to qualify for the Olympics. The result is that spectators are guaranteed a memorable and entertaining experience from these world-class athletes.

The Canada Cup tournament will host over 1200 elite athletes spanning five divisions: Women’s International, Futures Gold (U19A), Futures Select (U19B), Showcase Gold (16UA), and Showcase Select (16UB).
