BE IT RESOLVED THAT (Motion – State whether Revision, Addition, Deletion)

This motion is a REVISION to SBBC SOR 7.2.b)i)

A minor player may not appear on more than one approved roster. EFFECT: They are ineligible for either team and ineligible to participate on any team in District, Provincial or extra Provincial events.

EXCEPTION: Players may register with two different teams to form a team in a higher classification (example: players from ‘C’ teams combine to form a ‘B’ team). This higher classification team(s) (‘B’) may be formed even though there is already a registered team(‘B’) in this classification with in the District. This team(s) must be made up of players from at least 3 teams of a lower classification (‘C’).

Regular Softball BC registration fees apply.

    RATIONALE (Intent)

Allowing stronger ‘C’ players to combine and play at a higher classification will develop the athletes and give them an opportunity to play at a higher classification while still being committed to their ‘C’ teams where they can provide their strength and leadership. This will help develop our grass roots house programs and strengthen ‘C’ ball in our Province. It will allow the athletes to compete at both classifications thereby making both classifications (‘C’/’B’) more competitive. As a Province we cannot continue to decimate “house programs” by taking athletes away to play only Rep (‘B’) and leaving no strength in the ‘C’ classification at key positions. This would alleviate the issue where you must form another Rep(‘B’) team if one already exists within a District in the same classification. It would be much better to have the ability to form a combined team to compete at a higher classification while still providing strength to the ‘C’ teams and competing at that level as well.

(c)    The Association President, Team Coach, District Minor Coordinator and Minor Director mutually agree that under exceptional circumstances a release and/or transfer is in the best interest of the player and the programs of Softball BC.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT (Motion – State whether Revision, Addition, Deletion)

Addition to the Softball BC Special Operating Rules.

RATIONALE (Intent)

Once a player registers with an Association in their district and pays their registration fees to that Association, the Association’s team are dependent on that player for the success of that team. The Association now has a vested interest in that athlete. It has been far too easy for athletes to abandon a team, just to go to another team/Association with in their district during the playing season prior to registering with SBBC for that current playing season. This has caused grief for the team that was abandoned, sometimes causing that team to fold due to lack of players. It has also been noted that players will leave teams just prior to registering with SBBC in order to bolster another team’s numbers, again causing distress for the team they abandoned.

CONSEQUENCES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE

Forfeit the opportunity to register with SBBC and play for any other SBBC Association team or District for that calendar year (Season).
