Level 1 Certification Clinic = Brand new to umpiring or recertifying as a Level 1. Please complete both (1) Theory Clinic; plus (2) Mechanics Clinic. Umpires can complete the Mechanics Clinic prior to the Theory Clinic.
Level 2 Certification Clinic = At least one full season of umpiring and preferably to be 16 years of age or older. Please complete both (1) Theory Clinic; plus (2) Mechanics Clinic; OR, Combined Theory & Mechanics Clinic. Umpires can complete the Mechanics Clinic prior to the Theory Clinic.
Part 1: Theory Clinic
Teaches rules of the game, the four elements, qualities of an umpire, handling confrontation, introduction to plate and base mechanics.
Part 2: Mechanics Clinic
Teaches 1-umpire and 2-umpire positioning, plate and base mechanics, and signals. Mechanic Clinics are offered Face-to-Face (in-person). If you are not able to attend a mechanics clinic, please contact your District Umpire-in-Chief for options.
Level 3 Certification Clinic = We hold a Level 3 clinic every other year (pending interest). We look forward to offering this clinic in 2027.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to register as an umpire for the season and choose
Brand new to umpiring or recertifying as a Level 1. Please complete both (1) Theory Clinic; plus (2) Mechanics Clinic. Umpires can complete the Mechanics Clinic prior to the Theory Clinic.
Register for the Level 1 Course on RAMP under Camps and Clinics. *Note: You must be a registered Umpire in 2026 to be able to register for this course.
Once you have successfully registered for the Level 1 course, a link to the course will be sent to you in your confirmation email.
Once a lesson has been completed and the assessment at the end of the lesson has been completed successfully, an email will be sent to you and to Softball Canada. After the last lesson, an email with a completion certificate will be emailed to you to show to your Mechanics Clinic instructors, proving that all lessons are completed.
