Annual Awards


Each year, Softball BC opens nominations for its Annual Awards, with the goal of recognizing the outstanding achievements, performances, and/or volunteerism of our members.

  • Refer to the categories and criteria outlined below. For additional information, please consult our Awards Policy.


Categories & Criteria

Volunteer Category

a) Zeone Andrijaszyn Volunteer of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Presented to members of our community who exhibit a nature of volunteerism for the benefit of Softball BC.

  • The nominated volunteer must be a resident of British Columbia during the period for which the outstanding performance is claimed.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.


Coach Category

a) Bryan Sask Coach of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Must have coached and demonstrated excellence in one or more Provincial, Western Canadian or Canadian Championship, Canada Summer Games or the BC Summer Games, within the current season.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

  • Must be a current resident of British Columbia for the period for which the outstanding performance is claimed.

b) Community Coach of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Volunteer coach in a recreational league.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

  • Must have demonstrated success, measured both in wins and in skill development and player retention.


Umpire Category

a) Official of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Registered umpire with Softball BC.

  • Exhibited traits that elevate the game and its officiating.

  • Displays positivity, eagerness, and willingness to improve.

  • Respects all involved in the game and is a positive role model.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

b) Rising Star - Nomination Form Closed

  • Registered umpire with Softball BC.

  • Demonstrates eagerness to improve, skill, and a positive attitude.

  • Respects all involved in the game and is a positive role model.

  • Recognizes an umpire with three years or less experience who shows potential for greatness.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.


Minor Athlete Category

a) Community Minor Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

  • Must have been rostered as a C level player.

b) Indigenous Minor Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Must be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • Relevant statistics/awards for year of nomination required.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

  • Must have been rostered as an A, B, or C level player.

c) Rep Minor Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Relevant statistics/awards for year of nomination required.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

  • Registered member of Softball BC rostered with either an A or B level team.


Men’s and Women’s Athlete Categories

a) Men’s and/or Women’s Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

b) Indigenous Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Must be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

c) Men’s and/or Women’s Slo-Pitch Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Exemplary traits on the field, with teammates, and in their community.

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

d) Masters Athlete of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Represented Softball BC with distinction in BC and/or Canadian competition.

  • Must have an outstanding record with relevant records, titles, and stats.

  • Registered member of Softball BC (as defined in Operating Rules).

  • Cannot be a prior recipient of this award.

e) Athlete Resilience Award - Nomination Form Closed

  • Demonstrated resilience, overcoming health issues or injury to return to softball.

  • Registered member of Softball BC.

  • May participate in Minor or Men’s/Women’s fastpitch or slo-pitch.


Team Category

a) Master Team of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Demonstrated exemplary effort and represented BC proudly in competition.

  • Must be a registered Softball BC team for the year of nomination.

b) Men’s and/or Women’s Fastpitch Team of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Demonstrated exemplary effort and represented BC proudly in competition.

  • Must be a registered Softball BC team for the year of nomination.

c) Men’s and/or Women’s Slo-Pitch Team of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Demonstrated exemplary effort and represented BC proudly in competition.

  • Must be a registered Softball BC team for the year of nomination.

d) Minor Team of the Year - Nomination Form Closed

  • Demonstrated exemplary effort and represented BC proudly in competition.

  • Must be a registered Softball BC team for the year of nomination.


Association Category

a) Association of the Year - Small - Nomination Form Closed

  • Association has 200 or fewer members.

  • Developed innovative ways of developing athletes while focusing on grassroots.

  • Built programs and/or events to support and showcase softball.

b) Association of the Year - Large - Nomination Form Closed

  • Association has more than 200 members.

  • Developed innovative ways of developing athletes while focusing on grassroots.

  • Built programs and/or events to support and showcase softball.


 a) Men’s and Women’s Service Awards - Nomination Form Closed 

  • Participant supporting a Men’s and/or Women’s league or community.

  • Positive voice for the game for at least 10 years.

  • Dedicated and active as a coach, mentor, trainer, or local sport organization executive.

b) Minor Service Awards - Nomination Form Closed

  • Positive voice for the game for at least 10 years.

  • Dedicated and active in the minor community as a coach, mentor, trainer, or local sport organization executive.

c) Umpire Service Award - Nomination Form Closed

  • Continuous positive role model for officiating softball.

  • Positive voice for the game for at least 10 years.

  • Respects all involved in the game.

d) Softball BC Volunteer Service Award

  • Not part of open nominations — tracked by Softball BC Staff.

  • Recognizes Coordinators, PODCs, and UICs for years of service.

  • Members receive pins for 5, 10, and 15 years of service.

e) Brian Joe Award - Sportsperson/Builder - Nomination Form Closed

  • Awarded to a member with at least 10 years of excellent service (not necessarily consecutive).

  • Must have served at Association, District, or Provincial level for at least 2 years.

  • Must be a current BC resident during period of performance.
